  10. mounted on a geared
  11. crankshaft.  As the
  12. crankshaft rotates
  13. the rotor moves in
  14. an eccentric path
  15. inside the airtight
  16. rotor housing. 
  17. Inlet and exhaust
  18. ports are located
  19. in the side walls
  20. of the housing.  As
  21. the rotor
  22. alternately
  23. uncovers the inlet
  24. and exhaust ports,
  25. fuel-air mixture is
  26. drawn in,
  27. compressed, ignited
  28. and pushed out the
  29. exhaust port. 
  30. Compared to piston
  31. engines, rotary
  32. engines have fewer
  33. parts and are
  34. smaller and lighter
  35. for a given power
  36. output.
